We're talking Heating Oil here, not Sunflower Oil. Otherwise known as Kerosene. And Newborough near Burton-upon-Trent in East Staffordshire.
Newborough Oil Buying is a not-for-profit community bulk buying scheme which works with Oxfordshire-based Community Buying unLimited - http://www.community-buying.com/. They manage the negotiations with over 20 local suppliers and reach the best possible deal for us. The idea is that we have a set date each month when as many people as possible place an order, then we use the power of a bulk order to negotiate the best possible price. Over the following ten working days one or two tankers come here and deliver to everyone in one go, so it’s great for the environment and keeps tankers off the road. Following a very successful trial in October 2011 when oil was ordered for 19 separate properties – including the Church – we have been operating since January 2012 and now have nearly 60 members.
Membership is open to anyone living in Newborough, Draycott-in-the-Clay, Hanbury and Hoar Cross and surrounding areas and costs £20 for twelve months from the date of your first order. We expect that most people will – at the least - get their money back in their first order. Membership particularly benefits those with small tanks or on low incomes who can only afford to buy in small quantities.
